School Uniform and Equipment

At Calderstones, we expect you to wear uniform.

Students should wear traditional uniform on non-PE days:

 

  • Black sensible leather or leather look school shoes. No trainers.
  • Black school trousers, a black school skirt or a pinafore.
  • White shirt.
  • Tie (Year group-specific - see below)
  • Calderstones branded black jumper or cardigan (optional)
  • A black blazer with school badge.

Students should wear PE uniform on PE days:

  • PE t-shirt
  • PE shorts, or PE tracksuit bottoms, or PE leggings,
  • Note: We are currently seeking to source new PE gym / flared trousers, which some students have requested we introduce.
  • PE hooded top or quarter zip top. Students must not wear any other alternative hooded top.

September 2026 tie colours:
Green - Year 7
Purple - Year 8
Blue - Year 9
White - Year 10
Red - Year 11

You can purchase uniform items from local retailers such as Kitted Out and Liverpool Schoolwear.

SHOES

Only smart, plain, black faux or leather shoes must be worn in school. Examples of these are:

Branded footwear such as: adidas, Nike, Uggs etc. will not be allowed:

Footwear with coloured soles, high heeled shoes or wedges/platforms will also not be allowed:

GENERAL / OTHER

  • In keeping with our keenness to allow, within reason, students to express their own identity, we have no issues with hair style or colour. 
  • If students wish to do so, they may wear a black hijab.
  • Students may choose to wear a black durag.
  • We do not allow students to wear caps or hats. During period of extreme hot or cold weather, the school may make concessions for students when they are outside buildings.
  • We understand that during their time at the school, young people will wish to experiment with their own identity, including make-up, piercings and jewellery. We are understanding of this, but parents and students should understand that any piercings, for instance, are worn at their own risk and should know that at times, these may need to be removed for health and safety reasons.

In addition to the above clothing requirements, it is recommended that students wear football boots and shin pads when playing outdoor football and a gum shield for rugby activities.

EQUIPMENT

These are the minimum required items of equipment that you should be bringing to school each day:

  • Pens (a green pen should also be brought in alongside your regular pen)
  • Pencils
  • Ruler
  • Rubber
  • Scientific calculator and protractor (a geometry set is advised) *
  • Suitable school bag
  • No scissors or sharpeners should be brought into school as these will be provided in the classroom when necessary.

*  If you wish to purchase a calculator through the school, then you can pay with cash at Student Services for the following items:

  • A-Level Graphical £75
  • A-Level £20
  • GCSE £10

Items also available from Student Services (cash only) include:

  • Toolkits £5
  • Ties £7.50

THE FOLLOWING ITEMS MUST NOT BE WORN

  • Jeans.
  • Tracksuits / sweatshirts including hooded tops or tracksuit bottoms.
  • Training shoes.
  • Non-school trousers including any form of sports activewear.
  • Headwear may be worn but must be removed once inside the school building.
  • All electrical items must be switched off whilst a pupil is inside any school buildings.
  • Phones must NOT be used in accordance with school policy for students in Years 7-11.

LOCKERS

A locker to store belongings will be available to you should you wish to use one. The lockers are located in the Arts Wing. There is a small fee to use this facility so please speak with your HOY if you wish to use one.
