This year as part of our ongoing vision to provide care guidance and support to all of our pupils and parents we are hosting a raising aspirations event entitled ‘The Calderstones School Inspiring Your Future Day’
We launched the event during National Careers Week in March 2016. Throughout this week we ran CEIAG assemblies and all pupils undertook activities in order to develop transferrable skills, including interpersonal skills, diplomacy, marketing, management and entrepreneurial skills during registration periods.
Pupils from all year groups were invited to tell us which organisations they would like to see at the event and how they would like the day to run. We received a large number of entries from pupils of all ages and we were able to listen to their wishes in order to accommodate as many as we could.
On the day we had well over 40 different organisations in attendance offering a range of indoor and outdoor opportunities for all of our pupils.
We had Accountants, Retailers, Medics, Chamber of Commerce, IOD Business Northwest, Utility providers, Marketing, Journalism, Motor Vehicle Industry, public services, Armed Forces, Further Education, Higher Education, Sport, Construction, DJ’s, Drama and Dance.
The event consisted of a careers fayre, demonstrations, interactive activities and age specific workshops including:
- Recruitment Assessment Centres – Liverpool and Sefton Chamber of Commerce
- Starting Your Own Business – the Chamber spark Up Team
- IOD Liverpool – Interactive Workshops – MOCHA production Company
- The Benefits of University – Hope University
- STEM Careers – Hope University
Our Student Leaders, Student Ambassadors and competition winners helped to support, chaperone and coordinate the activities throughout the day. Due to our extensive landscaped grounds we had activities happening both inside and outside in our historic Quarry Hall, our ornamental Memorial Lawn, our Resource Centre, Quarry Gym and the interlinking walkways in between.
We believe that this event was a trailblazing event for Liverpool Schools – it was a hugely successful, exciting and inspiring day!
